Cookham Village Fete, The Pound, Cookham
June 16, 2007 A wise man (possibly Confucious, or Lenin. Or it might have been Noddy Holder) once said "When the weather is fine, you know it's the time, For messin' about on the river". Actually now I think about it, it was Tony Hatch, the king of the lyricists. We weren't ON the river when we played Cookham, but we were very close to it. And in keeping with the fine tradition we are looking to establish, we were all up for a fine afternoon of messing about. And the organisers had kindly set us up next to the Barbecue stand and the beer tent, so we were all happy as pigs in... a very comfy pig-sty..... We all felt good going into this gig. We'd prepared. We'd had literally some practices, and were ready to go. But first we had to wait around, because there was another band in our spot, playing first. We all watched on, waiting to see if they would be any good, and especially checking to see if they played any of our material. Fortunately, we were in the clear, and knew our set list was entirely new. The gig itself was great fun. Our first outside gig, our first public gig, the first time the good people of Berkshire had been exposed to our "exciting blend of rock fusion" (just made that up - can you tell?) went down an absolute storm. And we managed to get through to the finish, before the rain really set in, which was nice.
